Double Cloth Banner is a double weave with the top warp made of silk and the second warp using polyester with metallic lurex. The silk warp is painted using thickened natural dyes of weld, madder root, and logwood. The pattern used is a 3/1 warp faced twill, meaning that the painted warp threads are dominant in the textile as opposed to the weft. Every weft (horizontal yarn) that is woven passes under 3 warp yarn then over a single warp yarn.  The backside of this piece is all metallic blue yarn that pops through the front cloth. This can be seen in the blue bars that form triangle mirroring the painted silk warp.

Weaving this piece was an exploration of the materials and processes of weaving.  Creating two clothes in one is a challenging technique and leads to much experimentation.  A theme that is literally woven through out my work is using materials that are natural, have been used by humans for centuries and at the same time employing yarn that could only be made in modern times.  This constant mix of old and new materials within ancient processes constantly informs how and what I weave.
