Kristy Bishop (b. 1986) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in weaving, color relationships, and textile traditions. Her work embraces the slowness and intimacy of intuitive material processes. When beginning to weave a band, color relationships are at the forefront of the creative process.  Using a rigid heddle loom, she weaves colorful and brightly patterned bands that are interwoven into vine-like compositions that grow, split and stretch and are handsewn into place onto organically shaped foundations. Her compositions are inspired by vines and overgrown tendrils, and the rack lines that wash ashore from high tide. Breaking Points directly pulls from a mass of reeds near her studio in the marsh that swirl and shift with the changing of the tides.
